FAQ

Do you think you're the best umpire?

Are you nuts?! Of course not. My platform is called the Best Umpire Show because I want to help every umpire become the BEST umpire they can be, regardless of what level they choose to pursue.

What makes you an authority on umpiring?

Mostly YouTube. Seriously, though, my confidence in umpiring is rooted in my humility to realize that I have a LOT to learn to become a better umpire, so I am constantly studying and collaborating with other umpires to get better.

I take umpiring very seriously and thankfully have a ton of mentors in my life that help me become a better umpire. My confidence comes from being part of a great umpiring community in the Middle Tennessee region as well as having umpire friends across the country.

What's the No-Look Indicator?

It’s a custom indicator I invented that makes it easier to keep track of the count when you’re behind the plate. I used to customize every dial by hand, but I’m working with a 3D printer right now to speed up the process and make the dials more uniform.

Why do you record your games behind the plate?

First, because players love to see themselves from my view behind the plate. Coaches and parents usually love it too. I’m not allowed to do it for every game, and I don’t record every game I’m behind the plate since the camera adds weight to my mask, but I do record a lot of them.

It helps me stay focused when I record games and keeps me accountable to doing a better job in my opinion. And it allows those interested in umpiring to get a perspective on what it’s like to be one.

Lastly, it helps me get better because I don’t edit my videos except rare occasions where there was an argument or a player or parent curse, and I want to leave that out of the video.

Can You umpire my game?

Well, thanks for asking! Maybe. I umpire 14U and above in Tennessee in the Nashville, Franklin and Murfreesboro area for rec leagues, travel baseball organizations and the TSSAA (middle and high school levels). If you’re in the area let me know by emailing me at theUmpireShow@gmail.com.
